burning a cd

which seems so outdated, since i really should just be compiling ipod playlists...
in any case, i really, really want to make a mix of the greatest epic rock songs. as in, considering "epic rock" a musical category. on the list so far...

"Heat of the Moment" - Asia
"Don't Stop Believing" - Journey
er, that "I'm sailing away..." song, is it Styx? I have no idea.
"Tribute" - Tenacious D

i think you get the picture.
also under consideration: "Paranoid Android", "Baba O'Reilly" and "I Believe in a thing Called Love"
so bring me your deliciously earnest, incredibly long, sublimely overdone rock tunes. i will make the greatest cd ever conceived.

any takers?

"Come sail away" is indeed by Styx. For some reason it was the theme song to a high school retreat I was on...

Well, you gotta have some Meatloaf. I recommend "Two out of three", though really just about anything would do. "Tom Sawyer" by Rush, although again anything from about that period of Rush would probably be fine. And how about "The final countdown" by Europe? "Fool's overture" by Spertramp, much-beloved by a former music teacher of ours? "Jungleland" by Bruce Springsteen?

Ooh! And "November rain" for some of that sweet sweet Axl Rose magic? Signs point to Hells yes!

I think you have to put "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult somewhere on your disc. I think "High and Dry" might have more epic rock feel than "Paranoid Android" but that's my opinion.

Jane Heather says "Wheels on Fire" (either The Band or Marianne Faithful), "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, and "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner for serious "epic" and "rock" consideration. Also "Tommy" by the Who. But if you're looking at campy epic rock (which I think you might be...how can you take Styx seriously after Mr. Roboto), you have a treasure trove awaiting you with anything by Spinal Tap.

You might need to burn it as mp3s so that all those songs fit. But then you'd need a disc player that can play mp3s. Or you might have to do multiple discs.
